Saguaro National Park
Expect solitude and plenty of parking
Great any time
The massive saguaro cactus - symbol of the American West - reaches its greatest density in this park split into two districts flanking Tucson. These giant sentinels can grow to 40 feet tall, weigh 8 tons, and live over 150 years. The Rincon Mountain District (east) features a scenic loop drive through dense saguaro forest and trails climbing into sky island pine forests. The Tucson Mountain District (west) offers dramatic sunset views with saguaros silhouetted against colorful skies. Spring brings wildflower blooms; summer monsoons create dramatic cloudscapes.
