The northernmost of California's redwood parks protects pristine old-growth groves along the crystal-clear Smith River. The trees here grow exceptionally large, fed by year-round moisture and protected from fire. The park's ten-mile grove is one of the most scenic concentrations of massive redwoods anywhere. Summer visitors can swim in the emerald waters of the Smith River, California's only major undammed river. Fewer tourists make it this far north, offering a peaceful redwood experience.
